Village to Village brings help to developing countries

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. A new non-profit organization is getting ready to head overseas to provide once-in-a-lifetime medical care for people living in developing countries. Dr. Anne-Marie Moukala-Cadet recently established the Village to Village Care organization.   Moukala-Cadet has taken part in multiple mission trips where she has traveled to locations in Ghana and Haiti to provide medical care for those in need. She said during one mission, she and her colleagues treated over 400 patients a day with children missing school to get medical care. She said many of them go their entire lifetime without seeing a physician. She said a mission trip is sometimes their only option. “They have no choice but to rely on the kindness of the western world to send the doctors to volunteer their time. If you are born with a medical defect, you can die from it. Some illnesses like mental illness isn’t even recognized in those countries,” she said. Village to Village is planning its first independent mission trip and will be heading to Cameroon in March. The group is organizing a series of fundraisers including a 5k run and walk that will be held at the Vestal Rail Trail this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. The second is a gala that will feature food, a basket raffle, silent auction and performances by Binghamton University’s African Choir, and an African music ensemble. Optometrist Doctor Kathleen Gaynor says many people ask how they can help. “We find that so many people are generous and they do want to donate once they find out how important the cause is.  eing at the Rail Trail, a lot of people use the Rail Trail, so we’re tying that health point in as well,” said Gaynor. The Gala will be held on September 26th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mandela Room at Binghamton University. For more information go to Copyright 2015 Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc. All rights reserved.
